Bryan Rhys Jones, known simply as Rhys, is a retired security professional, former IT specialist, and passionate mental health advocate based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. With a career spanning over four decades, Rhys has worn many hats — from troubleshooting early PC networks in the 1980s to managing high-risk security operations — always with a commitment to integrity, service, and community.

Born in Southern Ontario in 1962, Rhys grew up as the second of four children in a close-knit family. His early curiosity for problem-solving led him into the world of technology, where he trained as a programmer and worked as a technical support specialist. Over the years, Rhys became both Microsoft Certified and A+ Certified, mastering hardware, operating systems, and LAN technologies from IBM LAN Server to Windows XP. His work in IT was not just technical — he was known for translating complex issues into plain language, empowering clients and colleagues alike.

In 2007, after nearly two decades in IT, Rhys made the difficult decision to step away due to the impact of long-term mental health challenges. Diagnosed with depression in 1989 and later with Complex PTSD, Panic Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, he navigated a personal journey of resilience that would shape his life’s next chapter.

In 2009, Rhys transitioned into the security field, where he would spend the next 16 years. His work ranged from frontline hospital security in the 1980s to supervising and recruiting for Securiguard in Edmonton. Known for his calm presence under pressure, he specialized in conflict de-escalation and crisis response, mentoring new guards and helping clients feel safe in challenging environments. His work in recruitment brought him face-to-face with people from all walks of life — from new immigrants seeking their first Canadian job to unhoused individuals rebuilding their lives. Rhys often went above and beyond to open doors for those who needed a chance, guided by his belief that a hand up is far more valuable than a handout.

In July 2025, Rhys retired from full-time security work, turning his focus to creative projects and personal well-being. He launched Resilient Paths, a social media platform dedicated to sharing mental health insights, busting myths, and helping others build resilience. Drawing on his lived experience, he creates short, engaging videos and written content that connect with audiences seeking practical tools and hope.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Rhys is an avid genealogist with deep Welsh and French-Canadian roots, a budding photographer, and an astronomy enthusiast. He finds joy in cooking bold, internationally inspired meals, spending time with his grandchildren, and engaging with inclusive communities such as naturist and wellness groups.

Rhys lives by the belief that real strength comes not from independence alone, but from the support and connection we share with others. In his retirement, he continues to explore new ways to combine technology, storytelling, and compassion — proving that resilience is not just about surviving, but about thriving and creating meaning in every stage of life.
